Developer of high-tech instrumentation, electronics and mechanical systems seeks to employ a suitably qualified Software Engineer to join their professional team. Based in Cape Town.

You will support the technical operations team to operate, maintain, fault-find, repair and modify the software of the electro-optical instruments as well as building management system and related subsystems.

For the position you would be required to have:

• Minimum of B. Eng/ B. Sc in Electronic or Mechatronics Engineering or Computer Science
• Valid driver’s license
• 5 years’ practical experience in the full software development life cycle in a scientific, engineering, instrumentation, or industrial environment and have successfully lead software projects for at least 2 years.
• Have successfully developed software by applying structured software development methodologies
• Experience in developing and deploying software in a Linux environment

Responsibilities would include you to:

• Plan and manage software projects
• Derive software requirements based on stakeholder inputs
• Strategic planning and obsolescence management of software systems
• Develop software quality control processes
• Act as lead developer, software architect
• Perform software design, development and support through all stages of the development life-cycle
• Perform software maintenance and upgrades on instruments, plant and equipment software
• Provide software support to electrical and mechanical teams
• Design and test software via Acceptance Test Procedures as part of subsystem commissioning
• Perform fault-finding and bug fixes
• Software configuration control
